What is a growth mindset?

A growth mindset is a term coined by Stanford University psychologist Carol Dweck to describe the belief that intelligence and abilities can be developed and improved with effort.

When someone has a growth mindset they believe that they can change and improve upon their skills over time. Someone who has a fixed mindset believes that they are born with a certain set of skills that can never be improved upon.

Example:

An individual identifies themselves as being shy, but they want to be an actor.

If this person has a growth mindset they believe that their shyness is something that with practice they could overcome.

Rather someone with a fixed mindset would believe that their shyness is something that they could never conquer. This person believes that their shyness is a fixed behavior — permanent.

What is the benefit of having a growth mindset?

A growth mindset is the key to making progress in life. You need this mindset to pursue your goals, increase your wealth, and find success no matter what you do.

A growth mindset helps us to overcome challenges and learn from them. When we think that we may not be able to do something, it can become a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Having a growth mindset is a great way to improve your skills and become more successful.

It will allow you to develop skills like creativity, innovation, and problem-solving. These are important skills that can help you in any career field.
